That depends on how you are feeling and what is going on for you. Some people only need a few sessions to work through something, others need ongoing long term. Couples work tends to take around 12 sessions, but again it is variable.

During the first session we will fill out an intake form, get a comprehensive account of your personal, medical, and mental health history. Discuss privacy, consent and confidentiality. Then look at what your goals are and what you’d like to achieve during our work together.
No. The mental health plan gives you a Medicare rebate against the cost of 10 sessions with a psychologist only. So instead of paying the psychologist $250, you will pay $185. After those 10 sessions you will pay the full $250. With a counsellor you are not limited to 10 sessions, and the cost is the same each time.
A Psychiatrist is a doctor and is able to diagnose mental disorders and prescribe medications. A clinical psychologist is able to diagnose mental disorders and other conditions eg Autism, ADHD.
A counsellor/psychotherapist is not treating mental health disorders, but supporting emotional health/challenges, life stressors and therapeutic interventions for individuals dealing with various life issues. Counsellors work with people who are mentally stuck or unwell and facilitate personal growth, coping strategies and emotional wellbeing.
